The Queen's Diamond Jubilee - Stondon Big Weekend - more information

Stondon is a thriving village situated in mid Bedfordshire and like many villages there is a lot more to Stondon than you might think! The village includes areas known as Lower Stondon & Upper Stondon - we prefer to call it Stondon

Stondon lies 5 miles to the North of Hitchin just within the administrative area of Central Bedfordshire Council and just north of the border with Hertfordshire.

Stondon has a population of approximately 1800 residents.

The purpose of our website is to collate on a single web site, all relevant information in connection with both Stondon Parish Council and the local community.

The following website

www.stondon.net has more detailed information on groups in the local community.

The name "Stondon" derives from the Saxon word meaning Stone Hill with Upper and Lower Stondon.

The A600, which links Bedford & Hitchin, runs along the Eastern edge of the village.

Station Road connects us to Helow and Shillington and runs through the middle of the village crossing the A600.

The village is about 6 miles from the A1 (M).

The A1(M) road  which provides a direct route from London to Edinburgh and approximately 11 miles from the M1 motorway which connects London to Leeds.

Lower Stondon is approximately 10 minutes from Hitchin Railway Station and approximately 5 minutes from Arlesey Station. Both Hitchin & Arlesley stations provide fast rail links to Stevenage, London, Cambridge and Peterborough.
